Make your way along our winding driveway and you will see the grand old house appear through the trees. But it is when you first step into one of our uniquely designed luxurious rooms, you really see what we mean by ‘time to unwind’. We are the perfect base to enjoying all the activities the Lake District has to offer or simply relax with a good book and soak up the views.

Accommodation
Visiting Lonsdale Villa Retreat, is like taking a step back in time to a more gracious age. The majestic old house stands on the hill above the traditional Cumbrian town of Penrith and has all the elegance of a Victorian manor melded carefully with the modern flair and technology you would expect from modern day life. The Drawing room, Dining room and Snug bask in the radiance of log fires to create a cosy atmosphere whatever the time of year. It is a place to relax and unwind, or do business if you have the inclination, in one unique setting. With its individual character and 7 bedrooms, your stay at Lonsdale Villa will stay with you long after your visit to the Lake District ends.
First Floor Suites
After ascending the magnificent old wooden staircase you arrive at our three suits on the first floor. Each suite is dressed in 400TC Egyptian cotton and feather bedding, because comfort is the standard here at Lonsdale Villa.
- Helvellyn suit is luxury personified with majestic views over Penrith and on to great Helvellyn itself. Guests tell us the view stays with you forever.
- The Langdales, with its woodland themed rain shower and cosy sitting room, radiates peace and tranquillity.
- Finally, we have the magic of Honister suit which personifies romance at every turn, with a hint of mystery.
The Loft
Moving onwards and upwards from the first floor you ascend the winding staircase you arrive on the top floor stepping into a magical world with its combed ceilings, Victorian décor in blues and gold’s and luxurious surroundings. You are now in the ‘gods’ where every room is full of character and charm.

Location
Penrith sits nestled between the Northern Lake district and the Pennines, in the aptly named Eden Valley. This lovely and bustling little market town is a 5-minute walk from Lonsdale villa Retreat – although you would never guess that in the peace and quiet of the grounds. Our guests love to amble through its winding streets. Take time when you visit to explore Penrith’s nooks and crannies. You will find local food to sample, little shops to discover, places to wine and dine and plenty of entertainment come sundown. With Ullswater lake just 15 minutes away, Lonsdale Villa Retreat is both close enough to Penrith to offer the best the town has to offer and also be a stepping stone into the heart of the lake district.
Activities
There are seemingly endless options for activities, suited to the most adventurous through to just sitting and enjoying the beauty of the Lakes from a local pub. From Honistors’ via Ferrata, open water swimming, canoeing, paddle boarding, mountaineering, hiking, Ghyll scrambling, cycling, horse riding to name a few, you will be spoilt for choice. There is even the local golf ‘hub’ with driving ranges and a nine hole course a few minutes away. Perfect for fun, team building events or perhaps even sneaking away for a quick round.
Hermitage Lodge
Our wooden lodge is a charming home from home in the grounds of Lonsdale villa. It can accommodate up to 4 people and is a completely self-contained home with its own garden, wood decking and private jacuzzi area under “Beecham” our enormous Beach tree. The lodge is fully equipped with 2 bedrooms, a spacious lounge and dining area, fitted kitchen, bathroom with walk-in shower, Sky & digital TV and, to top things off, your own Jacuzzi soaking tub.
